What is Amanita muscaria?
They’re magical mushrooms that are fully legal in the United States (except for Louisiana) and its use all over the globe goes way back. Tribal people from Siberia to Eastern Europe have used them for centuries. The mushrooms are not considered psychedelic like most magic mushrooms, however this particular species has psychoactive effects. Nothing like you’d expect from classic psychedelics like LSD, DMT, mescaline, and psilocybin.
The variety of Amanita muscaria mushrooms is astounding. A. muscaria is an edible plant with a history of nutritional and therapeutic use in regions of Japan, Europe, Russia, and North America, despite being severely toxic when consumed raw. According to literature from the 1800s and 1900s, people in these areas cooked A. muscaria in sauces, gravies, and soups. A. muscaria was utilized medicinally as a painkiller, anti-inflammatory, and anxiety reducer.
Traditional psychedelics, such as psilocybin, silence the default mode network accountable for the ego, engage serotonin receptors in the brain, and form new neural connections that change people’s lives. On the other hand, A. muscaria interacts with two different brain receptors, glutamate and GABA, and normally doesn’t create mind bending trips.
What’s an Amanita muscaria “trip” like?
Users will experience a pleasantly warm, buzzing, floaty like headspace. Colors will appear more vivid and you might feel sedated, kind of like after drinking alcohol. You’ll feel euphoric, content, and positive energy coursing through your body. They can enhance your mood, relieve anxiety, help you have very vivid dreams and even improve your meditation sessions. Can be greatly enhanced with Delta-8 and other Hemp Extracts we carry.
Amanita muscaria Active Ingredients
Muscimol, ibotenic acid, and muscarine are the three main active components of Amanita muscaria, which are also responsible for the plant’s peculiar psychedelic effects. Bear in mind that the information below focuses on the effects of the mushroom itself, so some of the effects might sound alarming, but none of the negative ones apply to our carefully and professionally produced product.
Muscimol
The most potent hallucinogenic ingredient found in A. muscaria is muscimol. In actuality, it has ten times the potency of ibotenic acid. A fungus metabolite called muscimol attaches to and activates GABA receptors, causing them to release “sedative-hypnotic and slight hallucinogenic psychoactivity.”
Hypnotic, and sedative properties imply that the effects of A. muscaria reduce anxiety. While this is happening, the hallucinogenic psychoactivity of the substance can cause slight vivid visions dream like states. Recent studies have shown that muscimol has analgesic qualities as well and can be used to treat disorders like pain, epilepsy, and schizophrenia.
Ibotenic acid
Ibotenic acid is the second-most potent hallucinogenic alkaloid found in A. muscaria. Ibotenic acid interacts with glutamate receptors, in contrast to muscimol’s GABA affinity. Ibotenic acid becomes more energetic and stimulating due to this mode of action. Additionally, users frequently feel disorientation, agitation, and exhilaration when mushrooms contain more ibotenic acid than muscimol. Ibotenic acid is said to irritate the stomach more than other acids.
In its uncooked state, Amanita muscaria mushrooms often contain more Ibotenic acid than muscimol. Ibotenic acid, however, is flammable. Ibotenic acid is thus partially decarboxylated (converted) into muscimol by heat, drying, aging, and digestion. The chemical transformation that gives dried fly agaric mushrooms their high level of psychoactivity.
Muscarine
Muscarine is the least potent hallucinogenic substance in this red-spotted species, present in trace amounts (0.02% dry weight). However, this small alkaloid causes noteworthy effects, such as salivation and perspiration, by acting on muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the parasympathetic nervous system. Muscarine has also been connected to defecation, urine, weeping, and sexual arousal.
Is Amanita muscaria legal in the US?
Amanita muscaria is legal in all states, except in Louisiana, where growing, selling, or possessing A. muscaria is prohibited by the Louisiana State Act 159. Amanita muscaria’s compounds do not exist on the DEA’s drug scheduling list. The main active compound, muscimol, is not considered a controlled substance by the federal government of the United States.
